Raising the possibility of a major player in the food-production chain

captialist world characterized by political and economic turmoil, and would likely
result in a significant drop in the availability of food to consumers, leading to
massive price increases. ( ) in the United States is the existing regulatory
supervision of corporate food producers by government authorities. The national
policies currently in place focus on providing tax breaks for corporate food
producers, essentially giving them free rein to act as they please. It is imperative
that the government implement contingency plans to ensure a stable food supply
should economic, environmental, or political crises occur. Efforts to encourage
local food production should play a central role in any such plans.
