(Beijing = union news) Brian Orser (47. Canada),
a coach of Yuna Kim (18, Korea), stated his intension to
protest against International Skating Competition Union (ISU)
regarding “wrong edge” judging coming out from
Yuna Kim’s triple flip jump.
On Nov. 7th, IB sports, the management company of Yuna Kim,
stated “Her coach, Brian Orser, can never accept “wrong edge” judgment
for Yuna Kim. Although her technique is perfect as she has got positive GOEs
throughout last two seasons as senior, she is suddenly judged with wrong edge this time, the fact that I can’t accept by any means.”
On Nov. 6th, Yuna Kim seemed to perform fine triple flip-triple toeloop
combination jump in the short program at Cup of China,
2008-2009 ISU Grand Prix, however, her jump had 0.8 point deduction
by the judge of wrong edge in her triple flip jump.
The coach stated through IB sports representatives
“If she has got low marks because of spins or other elements,
I could understand that her condition was not good and go forward,
but the situation this time is totally different.
I’m going to prepare the evident proof to protest against ISU.
“There have been several cases that judges gave GOE positive marks
for her triple combination jumps.
This is the evidence that the judgment this time has problems”,
added the representatives.
Her coach, Brian Orser, has intension to meet the relatives
who would affect ISU and protest against ISU through unofficial way
even no matter what happens, if it would be hard to protest officially.
If we leave this wrong edge problem,
it can affect not only the Grand Prix final coming in Dec.
and the World Championships in next year,
but also Vancouver Olympic Games in 2010.
Besides, this is the problem which makes the skaters’ pride at risk,
so that both IB sports and the coach would not connive at this problem.
