娘にとっては売り飛ばされたことに変わりはなかった。
先述の｢足を洗う｣とは前借の完済を追えて自由の身になることをいうのだが、
半島ではあくどく詐欺的な手段で女を集めた者がいるという話はしばしば聞いた。
騙された女性は本当に気の毒だが、中にはこんな話もある。
｢『従軍看護婦募集』と騙されて慰安婦にされた。私は高等女学校出身なのに｣と
兵士や下士官を涙で騙して規定の料金以外に金をせしめているしたたかな女もいた。
またそれを信じ込んでいた純な兵士もいたことも事実である。
日本統治で日本語が通じた故の笑えない喜劇でもある。
Human trafficking was banned in the Meiji Era and replaced by the practice
of maegari(borrowing in advance). which was no different for the young girls
involved:they were sold. "Getting straigt," as I mention earlier, means clearing off
the loan "borrowed in advance"to be freed. I often heard that some people gathered
