Soka University of America has been coaxed out of his dorm room after hurtling
furniture out a 4th-floor window and barricaded himself in the room for nearly four hours, sheriff's officials said.
SWAT officers and crisis negotiators were stationed outside the teenager's dorm after he locked himself inside
and refused to speak to anyone. The teenager eventually gave up to deputies just after 8 p.m., said Orange
County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino.

He was arrested, but it is likely he will be taken to a psychiatric ward to be evaluated instead of being booked
into county jail, Amormino said.
The teenager was not publicly identified.
The SWAT situation, which drew the attention of news helicopter crews, began around 4:15 p.m. A student at the
school at 1 University Drive called 911 to report his roommate was acting strangely and was throwing furniture
and other things out their dorm room window, said Amormino.
Building 300, where the teenagers lived on the school's campus, was evacuated by deputies after they were
unable to contact the barricaded teenager, Amormino said. Students were later let back into their dorm rooms
after the barricaded teenager gave up and deputies determined it was safe.
Soka University is a private liberal arts college and graduate school.
