CES 2009: Portable NES
FC Mobile lets you take your classic NES carts on the go.

January 10, 2009 - The Innex booth inside the gaming-centric area of CES (imagine lots of peripheral manufacturers, though,
Sony and Microsoft have their own booths) is playing host to a number of retrogamer delights, such as the Retro Duo (NES/SNES combo) and the FC Mobile,
which is a portable NES that is approximately the size of a Game Gear and plays classic NES carts. Those carts are huge in comparison to the FC Mobile,
so there is plenty of overhang sticking out of the top of the handheld when you slide in your old copy of Metroid.
The screen on the FC Mobile is small, but solidly sharp. I played a few moments of Super Mario Bros. and had zero trouble with it.
The controls that flank the screen are decent, although what really can hold a candle to the original d-pad on the NES controller?
There are two speakers below the screen, but with the racket echoing around the convention center, it was hard to hear. I could make out the basic melody of Super Mario Bros., though.

Due to the size of NES carts and how much space they would take up in a carry-on or shoulder bag, the mobility of the FC Mobile does come into question.
However, the handheld includes AV cables for hooking the machine up to a television for home play. There are a few NES handhelds at the gaming area of CES this year, but of those I tried, the FC Mobile rose to the top.
