それもあるかもしれないが、今のところEclipse最新版は安定している
jdk1.6.0_29 32bitsでEclipse Indigo 32bits版→Update成功、Marketplaceの有名な人気プラグインのインストールに成功
そのEclipse上からm2e (Maven3.0.3)を実行→エラーまったくなし。無事成功
eclipse.iniでjdk1.6.0_29を64bitsに変更して同様のことを行なっても無事成功
Maven3.0.3もJava6の64bitsも32bitsもとくに問題なかった
ということはやはり、EclipseもMavenもダウンロード等様々なところで挙動がおかしくなったのは
恐らくJava7の32bitsか64bitsが原因だな。Eclipse 64bits版も原因かもしれないが。
次はJava7 32bitsでMaven単体とEclipse+Mavenを試してみる。
Java7 の64bits版が怪しい理由はこれ
Java7はまだ出たばかりで、本家Eclipse公式サイトからダウンロードするとき、
URLﾘﾝｸ(www.eclipse.org) からではなくプロジェクトサイト経由で辿って見つかる
URLﾘﾝｸ(download.eclipse.org)
からWindows (x86_64) （64bits）版をダウンロードしようとすると、こんな警告が出る。

This build requires a 64-bit JVM, and will not run with a 32-bit JVM.
You can, for example, use the Sun 64-bit 1.5 JVM for AMD64. Note
that the Sun 1.4.2 JVM for AMD64 is 32-bit and therefore cannot be
used to run this build.
There is a bug in the Oracle Java 7 64-bit JRE (b147) which may cause Eclipse
to crash (URLﾘﾝｸ(bugs.sun.com)).
The crash can be avoided by using the -XX:-UseLoopPredicate VM argument
(-vmargs -XX:-UseLoopPredicate). Alternatively, you can use a different JRE.
