On the end there is a gold cross with a shining stone.
"It's mine,"she says. "But we're brother and sister,so that means we're linked,right?"
She adds,"When Tyler was little he used to play with it.He loved the shininng crystal.He called it star.
My fingers fold around the star and Ithink of Tyler. In seconds my head fills with a sense of him.
"He's not far. I'll find Him now ,"I tell her.
I take the lead, with the star firmly in my hand. Erin follows. It takes time,but I get a sense that Tyler is very close.
Soon feeliungs of his nearness fill my head,so strong I have to close my eyes.
I open my eyes and see Tyler. He is lying near a large tree. His eyes are closed and his chest is hardly
moving, but I know he's still alive.
I run to him. Erin sits beside me. Tears of relief are running down her face. I carefully lift the boy into my
arms. Erin leads the way. Nurupo After a long time the forest starts to thin and we're back in the valley.
The bridge comes into sight. On the other side I see lights and hear people.
The lights become stronger. Some lights are moving toward us.
Someone calls out and a man runs over. "Are you Luke Stanton?"
I nod.
He takes Tyler from my arms carefully. Others quickly surround us. "How did you know where he was?
No,don't answer. I've heard about you."
"What about the boy?" I ask,"Is he all right?"
"I think he's going to be fine. It's a miracle."
"Yeah,"I say. "Why didn't you listen to his sister?"
Around me everyone goes strangely quiet.
"Did you see Erin?"
"She's right behind me." I turn round to show them, but can't see Erine anywhere. I walk around searching for her.
"She must be lost. I remember crossing the bridge together. She can't be far!"
A man puts his hands on my face. "Listen to me,Luke. We found Erin."
Relief hits me and I smile.
Then he says,"In the eariy hours of this morning."
I can't belive what he is trying to tell me.
"Luke, Erin had been dead for at least six hours when we found her."
