Even within South Korea, the name for "Sea of Japan" had long been undecided:
the academics were arguing the use of "Blue Sea", "Green Sea","Sea of Far East" and so on(quated from Sankei Newspaper 2007 January 9, Morning Paper).
In November 2007, then Korean president Roh Moo-hyun unofficially proposed the use of "Sea of Peace" or "Sea of Frindship" to then Japanese Prime Minster Shinichiro Abe.
