以上で一般怪物定理は,固定点定理,Fibration定理,境界模様定理に帰着された.これ等を示す
ための議論の流れを示したものが図 8の図式である.図中?,?,? は,上記3つの定理の位置を示
す.紙面の都合上おのおのの項を説明できず残念であるが,この図式から,なぜ‘怪物'なのかが想
像できると思う.以下3つの定理の大雑把な解説とその参考論文を紹介する.

怪物定理の証明が、完全に書かれるのに、20年。
つまり、フィールズ賞のときは、怪物定理の証明は出版されていなかったという ”笑い話みたいこと”だった

took about 20 years and the efforts of many authors for all details to be written down
rigorously. It is worth reading Thurston’s interesting argument [Th1994] why he did
not provide the detailed proof himself.”
