POWER processor compatibility
The POWER5 architecture contains enhancements to the POWER4 architecture
while maintaining binary compatibility between the two, which allows you
to run the same application on both platforms. This same binary can also
run on an IBM eServer BladeCenter JS20, which contains the PowerPC 970-based
processor. This processor is a single-core version of the POWER4 processor,
which maintains binary compatibility with other members of the Power
Architecture family.

とのこと。記事自体は64bit PowerPC ELFバイナリと32bit PowerPC ELFバイナリ
の互換性が中心だけど。Linux用のXL C/C++ v7.01はPower Mac G5/XServe G5で
も動くけど、v8.0では切られたみたい。Mac OS X用はv6.0で完全に発売終了。
