まずテスト用ディレクトリとファイルを作る
mkdir test_dir
touch test_dir/test_file{0,1,2}
test_dir以下をrootの持ち物にするには
sudo chown -R root:root test_dir
自分の持ち物に戻すには
sudo chown -R your_name:your_group_name test_dir
your_nameはあなたの名前
your_group_nameはあなたが所属しているグループ名(デフォルトだとusersだったと思う)
ちなみに、所有者を確認するには
ls -l
