とりあえずUSBからの起動の確認だけなので最小構成の
arch-ftp-install-2008.04-rc-i686.img でいいと思う（約140MB）
.imgファイルをダウンロードして、
# dd if=arch-ftp-install-2008.04-rc-i686.img of=/dev/sdb←（自分の場合。適切にUSBメモリ指定）
以上。grubもすべて.imgファイルの中に入ってるのでこれ以上手を加える必要はない。
