This is wrong. The server always gets the MAC of the WLAN-Module of the Wii - no matter if you are using WiFi or LAN.
The server has no way to distinguish if you are connected using WLAN or LAN or with which LAN adapter.
Also, you only get banned for having a lot of different combinations - for using two or three nobody gets banned because this happens during the Wii -> WiiU transfer.
