米空軍はＢ５２を２０４０年まで使用するつもりでいる。
これは軍用機としては前例がない。Ｂ－５２が１９６２年に
制作された事は特筆すべきことである。Ｂ５２は繰り返し
例えばオクラホマにある米空軍基地で再構築された。
それゆえ時間的には長いけれども有効な作戦期間は
極めて若い。
Future of the B-52
The Air Force intends to keep the B-52 in service
until at least 2040, an unprecedented length of service
for a military aircraft.[11] This is especially remarkable
considering the last B-52 was built in 1962. B-52s are
periodically rebuilt at the USAF maintenance depots such as
Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma. Therefore, despite their chronological age,
their effective service age is quite young.[citation needed]
