航空機レーザーは世界で初めての空輸機での指向エネルギー兵器システムである。
６つの化学酸素ヨウ素レーザーシステムは１００万ワット級のビームを数百ｋｍの
範囲で生成することができる。十分な威力をもって目標にそのレーザービームを
当てるため、大気の乱れによる偏光や分散への対策として適切な光学システムを
採用している
Program Description
The Airborne Laser will represent the world's first use of a
directed energy weapon system in an airborne combat
environment. The six-module Chemical Oxygen Iodine Laser
system is capable of producing a megawatt-class beam effective
out to a range of several hundred kilometers. To ensure the laser
beam hits its target with sufficient destructive power, the system
uses adaptive optics to compensate for beam deflection and
dispersion caused by atmospheric disturbance.
