The surge lifted the Shanghai and Shenzhen 300, introduced in April 2005 to track
yuan-denominated shares on the mainland's two exchanges, to a record 42 times
earnings. The ratio was more than double the 20 times for the Hang Seng China
Enterprises Index, composed of Chinese companies listed in Hong Kong.
