Dear Sir / Madam,
There has been some concern about one of your chapters, TRIO Japan, and I am
writing to ask you some questions about the organisation. The concern was
recently raised on the internet, and since then it has been talked about
rather a lot on a bulletin board every day.
I understand that TRIO Japan is run as (what they describe themselves as)
'an independent not-for-profit international organization', and their
activities include giving advice to those who need to raise fund to cover
the enormous cost of organ transplant surgery, especially the little
children who need help (since it is illegal for those under the age of 15 to
donate organs in Japan and the only chance for them is to go abroad).
Here is what seems to be happening quite often in Japan in recent years:
- The parents of a little kid who needs an organ transplant form a
fund-raising group after taking TRIO Japan's advice (or rather instruction?)
- They set a so-called 'target amount', set up an office, set up a Website
and start fund-raising
