It has been a long time since Japan and US concluded the Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security between the United States and Japan,
which declares Japanese Self-Defence Forces and American forces stationed in Japan shall cooperate to protect Japanese territory.
Of course the treaty seems too gainful to Japan; we do not have any duty to protect the USA, however,
Japanese government has paid a great amount of money to US military in Japan in return to protect Japanese territory and to maintain the US presence among far-east Asia.
Under this US protection, Japan had nurtured her economy and society during the post-war era, eventually to be the strongest partner of US. Japanese people has become to trust US through this history.
The situation has completely changed 30 July 2008, when the US government abruptly announced that Japanese Takeshima (Liancourt Rocks) belongs to the Republic of Korea,
ignoring the Rusk documents, the US official diplomatic correspondence sent by Dean Rusk, the United States Assistant Secretary of State for Far Eastern Affairs to the South Korean ambassador to the US in 1951,
which proclaimed Takeshima is territory of Japan.
The last announce showed that US could avoid her duty to protect Japanese territory by claiming the area does not belong to Japan without any rational backgrounds.
As the US is indivisible, so is Japan. This irresponsible announce would become a deep wedge between Japan and US in the future.
