Sir Winston Churchill to feature on new banknote (BBC) 26 April 2013

Sir Winston Churchill will feature on the new design of a banknote which will enter
circulation in 2016, the Bank of England has announced.
The wartime leader's image is planned to feature on the reverse of the new ￡5 note,
together with one of his most celebrated quotations.
Churchill was chosen owing to his place as "a hero of the entire free world", said
Bank governor Sir Mervyn King.
The artwork will also include:
Churchill's declaration "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat"
which came in a speech in the Commons on 13 May 1940
A view of Westminster and the Elizabeth Tower from the South Bank
A background image of the Nobel Prize for literature, which he was awarded in 1953

英イングランド銀行（中央銀行）は２６日、２０１６年から流通を開始する次期五ポンド
（約７６０円）紙幣の肖像にチャーチル元首相を採用すると発表した。
英国の紙幣には現在、進化論を提起したチャールズ・ダーウィンや経済学者のアダム・
スミスが採用されており、政治家は異例だ。現在の五ポンド紙幣には、１９世紀に活躍
した女性人権活動家エリザベス・フライの肖像が使われている。
チャーチル氏は１９４０～４５年と５１～５５年に英首相を務め、６５年に死去した。
ナチス・ドイツとの戦争を勝利に導いた指導者として歴代の首相の中でもひときわ高い
人気を誇る。
