I'm really sympathetic with one part of your friend's thinking. In my opinion, the trip to foreign
countries will be changing of pace for us ,and make us more develop. If we get a job, we will not be able to take
long vacations, so we had better visit foreign countries before getting a job. However,
in Japan, it comes to harder and harder to get a job. It is true that taking a vacation
makes your friend refresh and progress, but he may feel more nervous and uneasy
when he looks for a job. The reason is that these days many companys want to young people,
so if the friend graduates from a college later than others do, it will be more difficult for
him to get a job. Then, if he wants to go to a foreign country,
why don't you tell him to study abroad after entering a college? Going abroad to study
will be a fantastic and instructive experience for him, too. However, if he only
wants to take a break, it is wrong. For college students, time is precious to learn something.
It is ridiculous to spend two or three years on taking a break.
Tell him to keep in mind that we don't have enough time.
