Witnesses testified about retribution against whistleblowers in national security areas.
The first panel was made up of present and former military and government officials
from the most secretive divisions who described retaliation after they reported abuses, including
the loss of security clearances. Whistleblower advocates, various departmental inspectors general,
and Defense Department reprisal investigation officers also testified about the need for
stronger laws to protect whistleblowers.
