“We can,” they answered.
Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink from my cup, but [ to sit at my right or left ] is not [ for me to grant ].
These places belong to those [ for whom they have been prepared by my Father ].”
[ When the ten heard about this ], they were indignant with the two brothers.
Jesus called them together and said, “You know [ that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them ].
Not so with you. Instead, [ whoever wants to become great among you ] must be your servant,

Joseph Reassures His Brothers
[ When Joseph’s brothers saw [ that their father was dead ] ],
they said, “What [ if Joseph holds a grudge against us and pays us back for all the wrongs [ we did to him ] ]?”
So they sent word to Joseph, [ saying ], “Your father left these instructions [ before he died ]:
‘This is [ what you are [ to say to Joseph ] ]:
I ask you [ to forgive your brothers the sins and the wrongs [ they committed in [ treating you so badly ] ].’
Now please forgive the sins of the servants of the God of your father.”
[ When their message came to him ], Joseph wept.
His brothers then came and threw themselves down before him.
“We are your slaves,” they said.
But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God?
You intended [ to harm me ], but God intended it for good [ to accomplish [ what is now being done ] ],
the [ saving ] of many lives. So then, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children.”
And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them.

The Death of Joseph
Joseph stayed in Egypt, along with all his father’s family.
He lived a hundred and ten years and saw the third generation of Ephraim’s children.
Also the children of Makir son of Manasseh were placed at birth on Joseph’s knees.
Then Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about [ to die ]. But God will surely come to your aid and take you up out of this land to the land [ he promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob ].”
And Joseph made [ the Israelites swear an oath ] and said, “God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up from this place.”
So Joseph died at the age of a hundred and ten. And [ after they embalmed him ], he was placed in a coffin in Egypt.

Joseph Accepts Jesus as His Son
This is [ how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about:
His mother Mary was pledged [ to be married to Joseph ],
but [ before they came together ], she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.
[ Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want [ to expose her to public disgrace ] ],
he had in mind [ to divorce her quietly ].
But [ after he had considered this ], an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said,
“Joseph son of David, do not be afraid [ to take Mary home as your wife ],
[ because [ what is conceived in her ] is from the Holy Spirit ].

大阪府で君が代条例が可決されたね。
君が代斉唱で起立しない教師はクビにできる法律。
教師には反対者が多いけど、新聞社がアンケートをとったら
生徒はほとんどが賛成だそうな。
民間企業だったら社長の考えに従えなければ退職させられるんだから、
トップの府知事に従えないんなら私立に行けば済むことだと言ってる生徒や、
全体の和を重んじてる自分たちが儀式で和を乱して座ってるのは滑稽だと
言ってる生徒など、教師より生徒の方が社会の現実をきちんと踏まえた
考えをしっかり持ってることが浮き彫りに。
