Jesus Sends Out the Twelve
[ When Jesus had called the Twelve together ],
he gave them power and authority [ to drive out all demons ] and [ to cure diseases ],
and he sent them out [ to proclaim the kingdom of God ] and [ to heal the sick ].
He told them: “Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt.
[ Whatever house you enter ], stay there [ until you leave that town ].

[ If people do not welcome you ], leave their town and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”
So they set out and went from village to village, [ proclaiming the good news ] and [ healing people everywhere ].
Now Herod the tetrarch heard about all [ that was going on ].
And he was perplexed [ because some were saying [ that John had been raised from the dead ],
others [ that Elijah had appeared ],
and still others [ that one of the prophets of long ago had come back to life ].
But Herod said, “I beheaded John. Who, then, is this [ I hear such things about ]?”
And he tried [ to see him ].

きょうの潮流
６月を「水無月（みなづき）」とする暦に、違和感を覚える人は多いでしょう。水の多い雨期なのに、水が無いとは？
▼もともと旧暦６月の呼び名ですが、いまは新暦６月に「水無月」と記すカレンダーが少なくありません。
旧暦でも、今年の場合は新暦７月１日が旧暦６月１日にあたります。やはり、梅雨がまだ続く雨期には違いありません
▼文字通り水の無い月と考える説は、季節の変化に着目します。やがて梅雨が終わり、水もかれる月です。
対して、いま有力な説は、「水無月」実は「水の月」と考えます。田植えも終わり田ごとに水が注がれる月だった、と
▼「無」は「な」の当て字で本来は「の」の意味、というわけです。「水の月」なら、梅雨どきの新暦６月でも違和感はありません。
しかし、今年６月の水の風景はどうでしょう。
やはり、被災地のようすが思い浮かびます
▼大地震と大津波で水に没してしまい、田植えのできない田んぼ。
地盤が落ち込み、雨がふったり潮が満ちてきたりすれば、水浸しとなる街。
それだけではありません。
福島第１原発のあちこちにたまる、高濃度の放射能に汚染された水があふれかねません。
雨が、流出の危険を大きくしています
▼「六月（みなづき）の土さへ割（さ）けて照る日にもわが袖（そで）乾（ひ）めや君に逢（あ）はずして」。
万葉集の一首です。雨があがっても、愛する人に会えないから袖を涙でぬらすばかり、と歌っているのでしょうか。
被災した人々に、涙に暮れなくていい日々が一日も早く戻るよう、願わずにはおられません。
