I am teaching English in a department of English Literature.
What I remember that I had experienced when I was a middle school student was that a teacher
pronounced tomato as TOMEITO. Actually, when I pronounced as TOMATO like said in Japanese,
the teacher said rapidly that my pronunciation was wrong. But, now when I got to teach students
British English, I know the pronunciation which I used is now wrong at all.
Whenever I listen to what someone are talking about tomato in the same way that teacher taught to me,
I recall that past experience of that teacher bitterly, and I get inclined to say that you should not say
tomato as TOMEITO, but say TOMATO, as the latter is the way Britain speaks about tomato.
