The central car is something never seen before, the real prototype section of the train.
It contains a car (upper level) and a locomotive (lower level), with all power equipment,
i.e. a "traction chain", and 2 powered trucks. These trucks are an innovation: i) they
are intermediate powered trucks on a TGV (no TGV has ever had intermediate power trucks), ii)
they are located right under the interconnection between 2 cars (a highly sophisticated
technical solution), iii) they are under a bilevel train, iv) they have innovative electrical
motors with permanent magnets, surprisingly small motors.
These elements are part of the "distributed power" TGVs of the future. During the test runs,
these 2 trucks add about 4MW (5400 hp) while the locomotives deliver about 16MW (21500 hp).
