Japan's DPJ chooses Naoto Kan as leader
Japan's governing Democratic Party (DPJ) has chosen Naoto Kan as its new leader,
paving the way for him to become the next prime minister.
The party voted overwhelmingly in favour of Mr Kan, the current finance minister,
who promised a "new start".
He will become PM if his selection is confirmed by parliament, which is
dominated by the DPJ.
