日米両防衛当局が、１１月のオバマ米大統領の来日直後から、米海軍と  
海上自衛隊を中心に空母ジョージ・ワシントンも参加しての大規模な統合  
演習を実施することが明らかになった。  
 
作戦の柱は、沖縄・尖閣諸島近海での中国漁船衝突事件を受けた  
 
　　　　　「尖閣奪還作戦」。  
 
大統領来日のタイミングに合わせ統合演習を実施することにより、  
強固な日米同盟を国際社会に印象付け、東シナ海での活動を活発化  
させる中国軍を牽制（けんせい）する狙いがある。
