we have full coverage of the situation all day long in the media. There
are many specials on TV. We have seen the 4 explosions at the different
reactor blocks in Fukushima. The first 3 explosions have obviously not
damaged the core of the reactors. But it looks like the last explosion
in block 2 has probably broken the core and the radiation has reached
very high levels.
There seems to be a core meltdown in block 2. The situation is described
as "very bad" and "out of control" in the news. Experts fear that if one
reactor block is broken also the other 2 critical blocks may meltdown,
because no one can stay there anymore to cool them down.
We heared that for a short period there was a slightly increased
radiation in Tokyo. The wind however seems to blow out on the sea for
the next days. So for the moment you seem safe.
Onagawa and Tokai seem to be more or less okay again.
Germany is shutting down the 7 oldest nuclear plants temporarily, the
oldest ones are shut down completely.
Everybody in Germany is shocked. At work and everywhere we only talk
about Japan. People are starting to donate for Japan. We are feeling
with you!
