Merchant Navy officers stage protest rally

Demanding release of oil tanker Hebei Spirit’s Captain Jasprit Chawla and First Officer
Shyam Chetan, who were jailed by South Korea in December 2007 on charges of causing oil spill off
the Port of Daesan, Merchant Navy Officers’ Welfare Association, India, took out a protest rally
in the city on Sunday.

at Willingdon Island at 4 p.m.

Cadets from Cochin Shipyard Training Institute, KM School Of Marine Engineering, Institute of

At Marine Drive where it ended, Prof K.A. Simon, principal of KM School of Marine Engineering, and
Capt. George of Company of Master Mariner addressed the rally.
