(6) The dialect used in the story is so hard for me to understand that I very often get lost.
But I manage to go on further. Even when I don't seem to understand more than 60 percent of
the story because of the heavy regional English, I don't care. I go on reading anyway.
(7) When I'm reading one of those chapters, perhaps 6-10 pages long, where the author
uses standard English to depict the dynamic trends and developments of the American West
at the time (in the mid-20th century maybe?), his propose is so beautiful I can't help sighing.
(8) What with the heavily dialect-filled dialog and what with the depiction of social trends
at the time in standard English, I just can't help confirming that Steinbeck is a veritable genius.
I'm delighted I've rediscovered him
