Romany: No - "thought" and "away" are not a usual collocation - it's just a play on words. We say something is (a distance/time) away:- The town is a mile away. Europe is a day away by plane.
The inference is always that distance is involved. By saying that someone is only a thought/dream away we are attempting to lessen that distance.
