トランプ候補というのはアメリカの支配階級を告発する存在
彼が人気を集めるということは、孤立化した専制的エリートへの反発の症状である
Trump’s rise is, like that of his Democratic counterpart Bernie Sanders, a
sign that a large number of voters don’t feel represented by more mainstream
politicians. On many issues, ranging from immigration reform, which many
critics view as tantamount to open borders, to bailouts for bankers, the
Republican and Democratic establishments agree, while a large number (quite
possibly a majority) of Americans across the political spectrum feel
otherwise. But when no “respectable” figure will push these views, then
less-respectable figures such as Trump or Sanders (a lifelong socialist who
once wrote that women dream of gang rape, and that cervical cancer results
from too few orgasms) will arise to fill the need.
トランプ候補の人気は民主党のサンダース候補のそれと同じように政治のメインス
トリームにいる候補への共感性のなさを示す。不法移民問題や銀行救済において
共和党と民主党のエスタブリッシュメント達が合意しても多数の有権者が不満であ
る。極端な言辞のあるトランプ候補やサンダース候補が、その隙間を埋めるのだ。
