Democrats march in lock-step behind the Clinton machine.

Much of the ironic credit for this Democratic predicament belongs to President
Obama. Though there’s little warmth between him and the Clintons, and Bill
Clinton is often critical in private, Mr. Obama has paved the way for Hillary’s
coronation. By making her Secretary of State, he gave her foreign-policy
credentials.
But his main contribution has been governing to the left and thus helping to
wipe out the next generation of Democrats. The historic midterm routs of 2010
and 2014 eliminated the younger politicians in state houses and on Capitol Hill
who would typically be drawing national media attention in the seventh year of
a Presidency. Nearly all of the big swing states, like Florida and Michigan,
have GOP Governors.

The email and foreign-donor stories are a reminder of what Democrats should
expect from here to November 2016. There will always be Clinton scandals
because the Clintons always believe they can play by their own rules and get
away with it. Their response is to stonewall, dismiss critics as partisan,
and rally Democrats to their side.
