IAEA looks to newer technology, issues
The agency continues to investigate issues related to transportable nuclear
power plants (TNPPs), with particular attention given to floating reactors,
which are designed to meet the energy needs of islands or remote areas,
IAEA said.

The IAEA also said the worldwide nuclear workforce is dwindling and becoming
increasingly more mobile. This poses challenges with regard to tracking and
managing the cumulative radiation dose employees receive throughout their
working lives from all the sites at which they may be stationed.

The report also notes that the Fukushima accident caused release of a “wide
spectrum of radionuclides to the environment. As a result, a large number of
people had to be evacuated from the area in order to prevent exposures above
the predefined reference levels."
