In the summer of 1945, when the Soviet Red Army began to attack Japan and crossed the Soviet-
Manchurian border, the head-quarter of Japanese army corps in Korea, informed the Soviet invasion,
understood that they had to cede the Korean Peninsula to Soviet Union. Then, reluctant to give up
Korean fertile fields to their foes, Japanese army resolved to scatter lots of salt on all of Korean farms
in order to disable them from yielding for a long time.
They started to practice this inhumane “Scorched-Earth operation” and threw around salt over the
farms, while they retreated from north to south. The rapid march of Soviet army blocked the
accomplishment of the operation, but farms in the north half of Korean Peninsula were terribly
eradicated by the criminal insanity of Japanese army.
Even now, North Korea (DPRK) is bothered by chronic famine, which may be caused by the after-effect of
that rampage of Japan imperialism.
