These notes attempt to unravel some of Mochizuki’s comments in his September 2018 Report on discussions. . . , which aims to support his claimed proof of the abc conjecture.
I am not an arithmetic geometer or number theorist, but a category theorist, and these notes focus on category-theoretic issues and concepts which Mochizuki has raised.
These notes make no claim as to the correctness or otherwise of Mochizuki’s proof, or Scholze?Stix’s rebuttal, but merely aim to extract concrete mathematical content from Mochizuki’s Report in as clear terms as possible, and to examine Scholze?Stix’s simplifications in light of this.
