The carbon fiber is compounded using a twin-screw extruder and then made into filament using a single-screw extruder.
Both these operations reduce the length of the fiber in the CF grades to approximately 200um.
The diameter of the fiber is 7um, so the key is to look at the length-to-diameter ratio - which keeps the stiffness high for these grades.
