The biggest challenge when dealing with differences in nonverval behavior is the need to combine the ability to be perceptive with the ability to be detached.
Without being detached, we may jump to inaccurate conclusions
-e.g. 'Wow,Arabs are pushy' ,or 'Wow, Japanese are shy'-without stopping to consider if the reason that one is reacting that way is a lack of understanding of how Arabs or Japanese communicate among themselves.
As we learn the communication patterns of others, we can use our bodies to join in the intricate dance of communication.
