アメリカテキサス州でのJason Hunter氏が2001年頃に始めた活動「FREE HUGS」について筆者の経験談の英文です。和訳を何卒よろしくお願い致します。
The other day on the University of Texas campus, I saw a young man and woman holding signs.
In big, bold letters were the words "FREE HUGS."
Now and then someone would give one of them a big hug, but most people ignored them.
When I walked by, the guy said, "Would you like a hug?"
"Thanks, but I'm OK today," I answered and went on my way.
A few minutes later, I had to pass by again, and I decided to find out what they were doing.
The guy recognized me and asked, "Did you change your mind?"
"No," I laughed, "but I did want to ask why you're doing this.
Are you Christians?"
He said yes and explained that they were giving out free hugs with "no agenda" and that it was an idea he had seen on the Internet.
As we talked a young Asian woman came by and gave him a big hug without speaking, and I wondered if she was Asian American or a foreign student.
"But you know her, right?"
I asked, and he said no.
I still couldn't believe this was all about strangers hugging strangers.
