I've fallen for Borneo-or Sarawak in Western Malaysian Borneo-big time
After 3 days in KL in which I achieved nothing, other than finding
(according to one patron)'the best noddle soup and dumplings in
Malaysia'.I slept,I got sad and homesick and I spoke to an engaging
and interesting Danish PHD student, who was spending his days
interviewing low and medium level Government types about their faliure
to develop renewable energy, from the effluent of Palm Oil production,
an industry that accounts for 40% of Malaysia's GDP and is incredibly
labor and environmentally intensive.Alas, answers were hard to come by.
This project has been much mooted by the government, but evidence of
implementation are non-existent according to 'Jan' (always called Jan
the Danes, aren't they?.Whilst this was interesting,it's a shame that
it was my highlight of KL.I can normally tell if I'm going to like a
city by the names of the places on the public transport and in
'Bananatakis' and the extremely satisfying 'Tittiwang' KL promised
much, but it just felt too big, too concrete and too divided...
