We don't usually have a problem understanding most American accents and
dialects, but occasionally something unusual will come along. Just like I
imagine most Americans would have a problem understanding people from Glasgow
or Newcastle (because we find it hard enough).

Was very nervous at first, but it went pretty well. Learned many things.
My Japanese is much worse than I thought it was (but now have incentive to
practice more). I'm a "cat's tongue". And Japanese people who have never
left the country (her cousin) seem to find hugging VERY awkward.
