Hirtory demonstrates that as far back as the 1500s people realized that certain diseases may be treated with certain foods.
Not until the 1930s were vitamins commercially prepared, and a panel at the National Institutes of Health examined existing research to find out whether taking supplements could prevent disease.
The dietician Jennifer K.Nelson said that there is not yet enough evidence to state that MVM are effective in preventing major diseases― “cardiovascular, cancer, cataracts and age-related degeneration.
Thus far, what we know for certain is that vitamin/mineral supplements correct vitamin/mineral deficiemcies.
But, major diseases are complex in nature and can not be prevented with nutritional supplements."
The panel did recommend:
・Folic acid for woman of childbearing age to prevent spina bifida and related birth defects.
・Calium and vitamin D:taken together to protect the bones of post-menopausal women.
