"Mushagaeshi" is the name for a distinctive type of stone wall construction.
At first glance, the gentle incline at the foot of the wall makes it appear deceptively easy to climb,
but the wall is structured such that the slope grows steeper and steeper as one ascends, making it impossible to scale.
Such walls prevented the samurai who assaulted the castle from gaining entry, earning them the name "mushagaeshi," which roughly translates to "warrior-repellent".
The term comes from "musha wo kaesu," which means, "to turn warriors back/away".
