strive = to exert oneself vigorously; try hard / to make strenuous efforts toward any goal
The act of tackling the problem itself *is* "striving"; you're not striving to tackle the problem.
It also sounds weird because we usually use "strive to" with some kind of positive goal, and simply tackling the problem isn't a goal.
You can struggle to tackle a problem, or strive to solve a problem...
