ネットの例文コピペや翻訳サイトで作った分をパッチワークしたりばらしたりして
こんな文に落ち着きました。

The "in parentheses" in my second version doesn't mean there have to be actual parentheses in the expression, it just indicates that what comes after is a separate term.
Your version in >>752 is ambiguous, it's not clear whether it's (x+b)/2a or x+(b/2a).
That's why we use the word "quantity" to distinguish between parts of an expression.
